When the light went on in space
Horst Thiel, founder and operator of the Bad Driburg Observatory, lets you share in the wonderful history of the universe and of us humans. The universe came into being 13.7 billion years ago with a grandiose event we call the Big Bang. When it began to shine 380,000 years later, the first stars shone, which after a short life formed further generations of stars and enormous amounts of dust. This gave rise to the sun with its planets. Many kilogrammes of the elements formed at that time are still carried around by each of us humans today, making us children of the stars in the truest sense of the word.
