No autumn blues! With great works of art from antiquity to modernity, we elicit this season's very special charms.
What do Arcimboldo, Bruegel, Monet or Kandinsky have in common? Painters and sculptors from the 2nd to the 20th century created works of art on autumn in all its diversity: either as components of narrative seasonal sequences in the eternal cycle of life or as symbolically charged mood carriers: our autumn walk takes us from ancient mosaics to medieval scenes of the grape harvest and Pieter Bruegel's monumental "Return of the Flock", on to Caspar David Friedrich's romantic imagery and colour experiments around 1900.
After the lecture, you will be able to identify and interpret this season on works of art in museums, castles and parks. And what's more, you will see nature on your own doorstep with different eyes in its last burst before winter.
