The Seasons in Art - Winter

Sat, 26.02.2022

Where in art are there aristocratic snowball fights, snow flurries in the countryside, carriage rides on frozen canals or the lonely Arctic Ocean?
A kaleidoscope of forms of expression for the phenomenon of the seasons can be found not only in poetry and music - for example Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" - but also in art. The rhythm of the seasons, the eternal recurrence and the awareness of being part of history itself are reflected in pictorial examples from antiquity to modernity.
The so-called Little Ice Age, which dominated our latitudes from the 16th to the 19th century, produced - starting with Pieter Bruegel the Elder - fascinating winter pictures. And soon nature itself came more and more into focus. Let's dive into the wintry pleasure of ice and the colour palette of snow impressions!
