Jan van Eyck is one of the most famous artists in the world. He is associated with a new era, a dawn of the Renaissance, which he shaped north of the Alps like no other. Since 2021, the Ghent Altarpiece has shone again in its new, original splendour. This major work by Jan van Eyck and his brother Hubert van Eyck was already fascinating when it was inaugurated in 1432 and has lost none of its appeal to this day. Even more, the Ghent Altarpiece raises new questions after its restoration. In the webinar, van Eyck's pictorial inventions, his highly complex, intellectual ideas combined with technical sophistication will be illuminated and his pioneering innovations will be appreciated.
