Journey to the northern end of the world
After stays in Lapland, Northern Norway, Iceland and Greenland, I visited the icy world of Spitsbergen, 1300 km from the North Pole. The region fascinates with glaciers, auroras as well as amazing wildlife. Because of the polar bears, it is forbidden to leave the villages without the accompaniment of an armed guide, who also accompanied me at night during aurora shots. The eternal ice also holds the completely unexpected: work for people from numerous nations, a university, several research stations, the world's largest seed vault as well as a unique safe haven for works of art.
